The Kallang River, the longest river in Singapore, is undergoing a major transformation as part of the URA's Master Plan. This project aims to turn the river into a lively lifestyle hub, enhancing the waterfront living experience for residents. New parks and recreational amenities are being added along the river’s edge, providing green spaces, picturesque riverfront strolls, and various outdoor activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding.
Several land plots in Kallang have been designated for high-density housing developments. For instance, an empty plot near Kallang MRT station, approximately 3.5 hectares in size, is being re-zoned primarily for housing with a plot ratio of 4.2. This site could potentially yield around 1,300 homes, although it might also be used for a Build-To-Order (BTO) project under the Prime Location Public Housing (PLH) model due to its central location.
The area will benefit from a future lifestyle hub to be developed around Kallang Riverside, offering residents proximity to various amenities within Whampoa. A new park by the Kallang River will serve both existing and new residents, enhancing the overall livability and vibrancy of the area.
The transformation is expected to increase the value of properties in the vicinity and attract more visitors, bringing economic opportunities to the community. The development aligns with the core principles of the URA Master Plan, focusing on connectivity, sustainability, and community engagement.
Projects like Arina East Residences, developed by the Zacd Group, are set to thrive in this transforming neighborhood. These residences will benefit from the improved livability, new green spaces, and the diverse range of experiences offered by the rejuvenated Kallang River area.
