How does the HDB inheritance, orphan scheme work

The HDB inheritance and orphan scheme work as follows:
For HDB inheritance:
- A person who owns a non-HDB flat and inherits an HDB flat is required to dispose of the inherited HDB flat. This rule applies to disposals of flats on or after 18 Dec 2015.
- A person who owns an HDB flat and marries another HDB flat owner must dispose of one of the HDB flats. This rule also applies to disposals of flats on or after 18 Dec 2015.
For the Orphan Scheme:
- It is designed for 2 or more orphans who are single siblings.
- The special condition is that the applicant must be an unmarried orphan and have unmarried siblings.
- At least one deceased parent must have been a Singapore Citizen (SC) or a Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR).
- The applicant must not have another sibling below 35 years old who is buying or owning another flat under the Orphans Scheme, Single Singapore Citizen Scheme, or Joint Singles Scheme.
These schemes ensure proper management and allocation of HDB flats to eligible individuals and families.
