The NSC is a 21.5km multi-modal transportation corridor that will connect towns such as Sembawang, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Novena, and Rochor to the city centre. It aims to relieve traffic congestion along Singapore’s north-south transportation axis by diverting vehicular traffic to viaducts and tunnels, freeing up surface roads for wider footpaths, cycling paths, bus priority measures, and community spaces.
The NSC is expected to be completed in phases, with the viaduct portion from Admiralty Road West to Lentor Avenue targeted for completion in 2027, and the tunnel from Lentor Avenue to East Coast Parkway (ECP) expected to be completed in 2029.
The development of the NSC is likely to have both positive and negative impacts on property values in the surrounding areas.
The NSC is part of broader urban development plans, including the creation of new economic hubs such as the Woodlands Regional Centre and the Northern Agri Tech and Food Corridor. These developments are expected to generate new job opportunities, increasing the demand for properties with convenient access to the NSC.
Once the NSC is completed, surface streets will be repurposed to prioritize walking, cycling, public transport, and community spaces, which can enhance the livability and attractiveness of the area.
